Eldon, Missouri In an effort to aid our customers in the identification of Marvel carburetors, we have gone through a number of Marvel catalogues, and listed the large raised casting number along with which carburetors used this particular casting.
Please note that for the most part, the casting number alone is insufficient to positively identify a Marvel carburetor, as most of the throttle castings containing the casting number were used with a variety of bowls, etc.
While the casting numbers are large and easy to find, the more useful part numbers if present are STAMPED recessed, not raised in numbers the height of which is approximately the width of the lead in a number 2 lead pencil!!!
Many of the early pre solid brass carburetors do NOT have any useful numbers. They may only be identified by disassembly, and comparison of each part to the original prints read expensive. And even if it is possible to completely identify a Marvel carburetor as to identification number, this information is sometimes insufficient to determine the correct repair kit. One number would be for a carburetor and heat riser combination as would come on a vehicle ; the other would be the number for a carburetor without a heat riser as possibly sold as an over the counter replacement from the car dealership.
Further, most Marvel carbs require different kits there are more than different gaskets, and even at least 19 different air valve springs.
All kits for Marvel are custom made to order, and NOT returnable. We do make kits for virtually ALL Marvel carburetors. In general, rebuilding kits will contain: all large gaskets, all fiber washers, a new fuel valve, a new float pontoon you reuse your old float arma new air valve spring, and most or all of the body and shaft screws Marvel used some unusual thread sizes!
For all of the above reasons, we suggest when you require a carburetor rebuilding kit for a Marvel carburetor; have the carburetor in hand and CALL!

In fact they even have a Ford part number. Sears also sold them under the Allstate brand. Like the Zenith they have a Gas Adjusting Valve hex shaft on the side that acts like and adjustable main jet.
The GAV has a seal on the needle to keep fuel from over flowing up the needle and to stop needle creep. We sell a GAV needle seal kit. You can use the GAV to richen and lean the mixture as you drive if needed. While your cruising at speed try opening and closing it to find where the best performance is.
If you engine is idling low enough rpm or lower the GAV shouldn't have much effect as the carb is only on the idle circuit.Terms Of Service.
Do they perform as well as a Tillotson? Re: Marvel Carb. No real complaints about the others, just like the way the engine runs with the Marvel better. I too have all three carbs but I get the best performance from the Marvel Schebeler carb. The bad side is that the jets are cast into the body and not renewable and there aren't many parts other than a gasket kit avaliable.
If you find one at a swap meetmake sure it has the GAV, GAV driver, and the brass gas line adapter fitting which are often missing and nobody makes them nowadays. Now we have no Cash, no Jobs, and no Hope Don, That sounds like a Marvel should have Pat.How does water clarity affect sea otters

It isn't as fussy as the Zenith, which can change it's mind every day when it gets a notion. My Marvel is now on the shelf waiting to find someone who has a needle and seat for it. I know Mike's was selling rebuilt Marvels at one time.

Seems my Tillotson gets about 10 miles per gal. I've not run it yet. The repair kit that I got from David Renner included a brass screw-in connector that would enable the standard Model A petrol line to plug in.

But gaskets do leak. I tried to locate gaskets for many years. Could not locate them. So I made the gasket between the 2 bodies. I just located the gaskets only At Mike's-A Ford able parts on the net. Shelby, Louisiana. They have been good Carburetors with little to no problem. The one attached to the manifold is the one that was on my '29 roadster pu back in I don't think the Marvel was original from Ford.
They were sold at Sears,Western Auto and other locations as replacements. The only problem I had with them was the Gasket between the 2 main bodies, gas would seep out and keep a stain in that area! Looks totally different! Anyone ever needed an extra hand when hand cranking your A or AA to hold the choke on for you??I am swapping out my Zenith 1 carb for a rebuilt Marvel Schebler.
I bolted in the Marvel and discovered two problems. The first is easy. The two carbs are of different lengths and I need to bend my fuel line to fit the shorter Marvel. The other surprise is a different thread size on the Marvel from the Zenith. Does anyone know the pipe thread size of the fuel line fitting for the Marvel? Tags: None 1 like Mitch Administrator.

Check the pressure of the fuel pump assuming you have one. New pumps are especially suspect.
Some have gravity fed carburetors, but they usually have a tendency to run lean, not rich. Fuel could be leaking around the seat. Check carefully for any cracks.CARBURETOR REBUILD TIPS DO'S DON'TS
Make sure you installed the gasket. Also check to make sure the old gasket wasn't left. Make sure he float isn't hanging up somehow and not closing the needle. Be sure not to put pressure on the needle when adjusting the float.
The viton tip can easily be damaged. Clean the viton tip with mineral spirits by wiping off with a paper towel until you don't get any black on the towel. Can't get the jets to come out. Seem frozen Use a screw driver that fills the jet slot as full as possible.
Carburetors & Parts
Tap the screw driver a few times. This may knock the jets loose. Heat the outside around the jet. Using a small drill, drill out the the jet increasing the drill size until it is just shy of the overall diameter.
Most of the time the jet will wrap around the bit and come out. My thoughts on this Even new ones. I would run it until it dies then check for spark, if that's ok then remove carb drain plug and see if there is fuel in the carb. Referring to the 3" or so adjustment needle that is used on the B type. There is a brass jet that is pressed into the bottom of the carburetor.
These are not removed normally and are not available.
